Sending Messages to Families

Nova’s messaging system lets you communicate directly with families without leaving the app. Messages appear in your inbox and in the family’s student portal.

Sending a direct message

  1. Go to Messages in the sidebar
  2. Click New Message
  3. Select the family you want to message
  4. Type your message
  5. Optionally attach a file
  6. Click Send

You can also start a conversation from a family’s profile page by clicking the Message button.

Conversation history

All messages with a family are threaded into a single conversation. You can scroll back through the full history at any time.

Attachments

You can attach files to messages — sheet music PDFs, practice recordings, photos, etc. Click the attachment icon in the message composer to upload a file.

Notifications

When you send a message, the family receives an email notification letting them know they have a new message in Nova. They can read and reply through the student portal.

Families reply through the student portal, not by replying to the email notification. The email is just a heads-up.

Unread tracking

Unread messages show a badge in the sidebar navigation so you always know when families have replied.
