Understanding Stripe Processing Fees

When families pay invoices through Stripe, standard payment processing fees apply. Here’s what you need to know.

How fees work

Stripe charges a processing fee on each transaction. The standard rate in the US is:

  • 2.9% + $0.30 per successful card payment

For example, on a $200 invoice:

  • Processing fee: $200 x 2.9% + $0.30 = $6.10
  • You receive: $193.90

Who pays the fees?

By default, Stripe fees are deducted from your payout. The family pays the invoice amount, and Stripe takes the fee before depositing the rest to your bank account.

Nova does not charge any additional fees on top of Stripe’s processing rates.

Viewing fees

You can see the exact fee for each payment in your Stripe Dashboard at dashboard.stripe.com. Each payment shows the gross amount, fee, and net deposit.

Refunds

If you need to refund a payment:

  • The original processing fee is not returned by Stripe
  • You can issue a full or partial refund from your Stripe Dashboard
  • The refund amount is deducted from your next payout

Payouts

Stripe deposits funds to your connected bank account on a rolling basis, typically 2 business days after each payment. You can check your payout schedule in the Stripe Dashboard.
